Celebration of Carnival in Mexico City

The Carnival of Mexico City, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage in February 2024, is an event that celebrates the traditions and artistic expressions of the towns and neighborhoods of the capital. This year, the second edition of the "Carnival of Carnivals" will take place, featuring more than 70 performance groups from nine municipalities of the city.

The recognition of the Carnival as Cultural Heritage was achieved on February 6, 2024, under the direction of Martí Batres Guadarrama, then Head of Government, who emphasized the importance of this event in preserving the cultural and social traditions of the indigenous communities of the capital.

The parade will take place on Saturday, February 8, starting at 3:00 PM, and will depart from the Monument to the Revolution to the Zócalo Capitalino. More than 4,000 people are expected to participate in traditional dances and festivals along the route, which will include major avenues such as República, Juárez, and 5 de Mayo.

The celebration will feature 74 performance groups from municipalities such as Azcapotzalco, Gustavo A. Madero, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Magdalena Contreras, Tláhuac, Tlalpan, Venustiano Carranza, and Xochimilco. These parades are representative of the cultural and religious syncretism in the Mexican capital, keeping alive traditions that date back to the origins of the country's culture.
